Peter Pan peanut butter, named after the J. M. Barrie character, was introduced by Swift & Company (originally through their Derby Foods subsidiary) in 1920 under the name E. K. Pond and renamed to Peter Pan in 1928. Peter Pan is currently owned by Post Consumer Brands.

Beech-Nut was founded in 1891 as The Imperial Packing Co. in Canajoharie, New York. It became the Beech-Nut Packing Company in 1899. In 1904 Beech-Nut became the first national brand to make peanut butter. Beech-Nut is now a baby food manufacture owned by Hero Group. Source: Wikipedia
Swift & Company was one of the first companies to adopt Rosefield’s hydrogenation process (see Skippy and Peter Pan). Swift's Derby Foods subsidiary first started making peanut butter under the E.K. Pond Company name around 1915. The company was later renamed Peter Pan.

The Planters Peanut Company was founded in 1906 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania by Amedeo Obici. Two years later it incorporated as the Planters Nut and Chocolate Company. Planters is currently owned by Hormel Foods. Mr. Peanut: In 1916, a young schoolboy, Antonio Gentile, won a design contest with his anthropomorphic peanut. Sunny Jim was founded in Seattle, WA by Germanus Wilhelm Firnstahl in 1921 when he bought a peanut roaster and began selling peanut butter at Pike Place Market. By the 1950s Sunny Jim supplied nearly a third of all peanut butter sold in the Seattle area. Firnstahl based the apple-cheeked character seen on the jars on his son, Lowell.

Joseph Louis Rosefield, founder of Rosefield Packing Company, was the inventor of non separating peanut butter and first licensed his process to Derby Foods in 1923. In 1932 the agreement with Derby Foods (Peter Pan) ended and Rosefield entered business with Skippy. Skippy was the best-selling peanut butter in the US from 1946 until 1980. Skippy is currently manufactured by Hormel Foods.

The H.B. Reese Candy Company was established in 1923 by H. B. Reese in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The official product name was "Penny Cups" because they could be purchased for one cent. H. B.
